Reginald Warner

Gainsborough’s founder, Reginald Warner, was exposed from an early age to the world of design and craft; his father ran the Geoffrey Wallpaper business and was a friend of the designer and poet William Morris.

Aged just 13, Reginald began an apprenticeship with the English Silk Weaving Co. in Ipswich, making rapid progress while also finding time to further his weaving studies in Switzerland. When that business went into liquidation in 1903, Reginald acquired some of its equipment and stock to set up on his own, basing his operation in the town we still call home.
